What traders should know about Veterans Day
Veterans Day is fixed on November 11 regardless of the weekday (federal offices observe a Saturday holiday on Friday and a Sunday holiday on Monday, which is why the 2028 federal observance is Friday, November 10). None of that touches the stock exchanges: the NYSE and Nasdaq keep their normal 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET hours.
The bond market is the exception. SIFMA recommends a full close for US dollar fixed income on Veterans Day because the Federal Reserve payment systems are closed. Like Columbus Day, it produces a session in which stocks trade without a functioning Treasury market.
Options exchanges follow the stock calendar and are open. Stock trades executed on Veterans Day settle on the next business day the banks are open.
