Where the bond market differs in 2026

Full SIFMA bond calendar →

US Treasuries follow the SIFMA holiday recommendations rather than the NYSE calendar. In 2026 the bond market is also closed on Columbus Day (October 12) and Veterans Day (November 11), while stocks trade normally on both. Bonds close early, at 2:00 p.m. ET, on the day before Memorial Day, the day before Independence Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and at 12:00 p.m. ET on Good Friday, when the stock market is closed.

How the NYSE sets its holidays

The exchange observes nine fixed holidays plus Good Friday. Four are Monday holidays by law (Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day) and Thanksgiving is always a Thursday. The date-based ones, New Year's Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day and Christmas, move to Friday when they fall on a Saturday and to Monday when they fall on a Sunday, with one exception: a Saturday New Year's Day is not observed at all, so the market trades on the preceding Friday.

Early closes are not holidays. The market opens at the normal 9:30 a.m. ET and rings the closing bell at 1:00 p.m. ET. They happen on the day after Thanksgiving every year, on Christmas Eve when it is a weekday that precedes the holiday, and on July 3 when it is a weekday that precedes a weekday July 4.

Two federal holidays are missing from the list on purpose. The NYSE has never closed for Columbus Day or Veterans Day; the bond market, which depends on the Federal Reserve's settlement systems, closes on both.
