Is it a weekday? The exchanges never trade on Saturday or Sunday. Friday's after-hours session at 8:00 p.m. ET is the last print until Monday's pre-market at 4:00 a.m. ET.

Is it on the holiday calendar? Ten days a year, listed above. Watch the observed dates: when July 4 or Christmas falls on a weekend the closure moves to the nearest weekday, and a Saturday New Year's Day is not observed at all.

Is it an early close? The day after Thanksgiving and a weekday Christmas Eve end at 1:00 p.m. ET. Orders that assume a 4:00 p.m. close, including market-on-close orders, need to be in before 1:00 p.m.

Does the bond market differ? On Columbus Day and Veterans Day stocks trade while Treasuries do not, and on Good Friday 2026 the bond market trades until noon while stocks are closed. The SIFMA calendar has the details.
