What traders should know about Juneteenth
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, and is observed on June 19 each year. When the date falls on a Saturday the exchanges close on the preceding Friday, which is why the 2027 holiday is Friday, June 18. When it falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is the holiday. In 2026 and 2028 June 19 is a weekday, so the market is closed on the day itself.
Because it is a federal holiday, the bond market follows suit with a full close, and bank settlement is paused. The day before Juneteenth is a full session for stocks with no early close.
Juneteenth sits in the same week as the quarterly triple-witching expiration in June, so the holiday can compress heavy options and index-rebalance volume into fewer sessions.

Only if that date is the observed holiday. In 2027, June 19 is a Saturday, so the market is closed on Friday, June 18. Otherwise those days are normal sessions.
